Should you wear full-body sunscreen every day?

Yes. We recommend applying sunscreen to your whole body before you get dressed in the morning. Or, at the very least, make sure you use it on any areas that will be exposed throughout the day. Even in winter, UVA and UVB rays can wreak havoc on your skin, making daily SPF non-negotiable. Our suncare softens and hydrates your skin, giving you an extra incentive for those daily top-ups.

What is the best sunscreen for the whole body?

It all comes down to preference. If you like the silky, hydrating feel of a lotion or cream try Expert Sun Protector Lotion SPF30 or SPF50+. But if you prefer the effortlessness of a spray, use Sports Invisible Protective Mist SPF50+ all over your body and gently massage it into your skin. Then tuck the Clear Suncare Stick SPF50+ in your bag for on-the-go touch-ups. It’s perfect for topping up protection on small, exposed areas, like the shoulders, hands or feet.

How much body sunscreen is needed?

As a general rule, we recommend applying around six to eight teaspoons of body sunscreen from the neck downwards. Then, keep reapplying throughout the day to maintain protection.

Why wait 15 minutes after sunscreen?

After applying body sunscreen in the morning, allow at least 15 to 20 minutes for it to absorb. This gives the UV protective veil time to start working in synergy with your skin, so you’re perfectly protected.

What SPF do I need?

The SPF (or sun protection factor) rating doesn’t tell you how strong your body sunscreen is; all Shiseido suncare offers the same level of broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection. Instead, the number indicates how long you can be in the sun before you start to burn. For example, an SPF of 10 means you can stay in the sun 10 times longer than usual before there’s a risk of burning. The higher the SPF you wear, the longer-lasting your protection will be. But, even with SPF50, we always recommend reapplication throughout the day.

What does broad spectrum mean?

When we talk about broad-spectrum sunscreen, we’re referring to SPF that protects your skin from UVA and UVB rays, providing equal amounts of shielding against both. UVA rays affect the skin’s deeper layers, which can lead to dark spots, fine lines and wrinkles, while UVB rays cause damage on the surface, and are responsible for burning. By warding off both types of rays, you can maintain healthier, more youthful-looking skin.
