A new era in skin immunity

In partnership with the Cutaneous Biology Research Center (CBRC) at Massachusetts General Hospital, SHISEIDO has spent decades exploring the link between skin immunity and its impact on ageing. Extensive research shows how everyday aggressors – such as stress, UV rays and pollutants – accelerate signs of ageing. But, by triggering certain immunity cells, we can effectively reduce the harmful effects our environment has on our skin.

This research has been at the heart of Ultimune since it launched in 2014, and its first three iterations addressed skin immunity in various, innovative ways. How Memory T cells work

The reason SHISEIDO scientists became so intrigued by Memory T cells is because of the unique control they have over the aged cells that are already present in your body. Aged cells can be found in your skin at any age, and they’re caused by a range of factors – not just ageing, but also sun exposure, pollutant particles and stress.

Memory T cells memorise the damage in these aged cells and then restore them back to their original state. By memorising the damage, Memory T cells can then act faster the next time a cell becomes damaged or aged. This means they stay ahead of the signs of ageing, so your skin is protected from wrinkles, fine lines, sagging and hyperpigmentation.
